Having lived in Germany for many years (Kassel, Cottbus, Marburg, Kaiserslautern, Trier) I love this blog and "Nothing for Ungood." I even bought the book from my local Thalia in Kassel when it came out. But I am a Louisiana boy, and I need to point out that the frog capitol of the world is RAYNE, LA, not RAIN. Rayne is actually a very nice town between Lafayette and Lake Charles in the middle of Acadiana, or Cajun Country to all you Kaintoucks (an old derogatory term for Americans).

Thanks for the great work.

Haha, this is awesome. A friend of mine (who's a chef) calls me "sauce nazi" because I always want extra sauce on my food. ^^ (We're both Germans.)

I have a question: will Germans ever "privatize" religion by ending the Kirchesteuer, and will they ever stop carrying religious services on Deutsche Welle? Becasue, you know, those patrician fundamentalist Germans, what with their very existence is sort of distubing to humanity, having made those choices for their own society and all...

A word to the arrogant and self-absorbed: do not expect Americans (or anyone else on earth) to care who it is that Germans love.

A simple feature that the sticker may not be telling someone stupid enough to buy that latter, is that it would be unwise to use it to do any kind of electrical work, as it is made out of aluminum.

Silly lawsuit outcomes horrify Americans. They are just as prone to find them bufoonish - but let's look at it through the prism of your blog:

- Germans see a silly news item about a dumb Ami lawsuit, and declare that they understand anything they need to knwo about 300 million Americans.
- Americans also find the story amusing and stupid.

The interest Germans take in it is not because of the content or consequence of the story as much as it is a case of content or consequence of the story as-it-relates-to-the-US. A similar story about an inept blod named Budo from Hanover would not give them glee. Don't be surprised to find Americans not just ignoring people who take up that attitude for their recreation, but hating them.

I live "part-time" in Michigan and I am always amazed about the amounts of vegetables and fruits offered in supermarkets. The variety is much bigger than here in Germany. But when I look into people's shopping carts all I see is unhealthy stuff, hardly anyone buys fresh things, although fruits and vegetables are much cheaper than in Germany.

...been wondering, can't you just leave that dumb Nazi stuff away when talking about Germany? There are racist people all over the world, also in America.
Luckily, there was someone saying that the "average German" doesn't support the Nazi language. Since it's not only that the "average" doesn't, it's that the damn majority doesn't AT ALL.

There are extremist people everywhere you go. I don't get why people make their lives easy and comfy always referring back to Germans. I wonder whether you can imagine how many Nazis (!) are in the States.

Enjoyed the commentary, just wanted to point out that as of December 1 2010, Sunday is no longer the black sheep of the week for buying alcohol. IE, you are now only restricted from buying alcohol from 2 AM to 7 AM all seven days of the week. No more waiting until noon on Sunday. Granted this blue law is still retardedly demented, but it is now very very very slightly less demented, and thus makes your joke very very very slightly less funny. But only to those of us who live in Michigan. It probably makes no difference to your readers in Germany. Anyway, keep on rollin'.

You are missing the point - sure there are extreme germans in either way. But the average german does not want the death penalty and not support Nazi language.

Funny way to pretty much describe as to what I experience to be reality.

Well, B and C permits it again in many places, especially highways. I often wish it would be permitted here to pass on the right on the Autobahn, because to many drivers always stay in the middle lane regardless of what speed they are driving.
But unless people are aware that someone may pass them on the right it´s to dangerous of course.
Btw, where in Germany did you see drivers who know how to drive? Must be a different region to where I live... :)
